Windows Phone's Market Share Spikes, but Will It Matter?

Canalys, the research firm, found that in the second quarter of 2012, Microsoft’s Windows phone platform made up 3.2 percent of the global market for smartphones, compared to 1.2 percent in the year-earlier quarter. While that number is still tiny, it’s a growth of 277.3 percent. (Canalys’s market share statistics are based on shipments to retail channels, not sales to consumers.)
